NAFEC Members Advocate for Emergency Care Priorities in Washington, D.C.
On December 9th, NAFEC members traveled to Washington, D.C. for a fly-in alongside policy experts from the McManus Group, meeting with key Congressional offices in both the House and Senate. The goal of the visit was to highlight the Association’s innovative approach to emergency care and to advance federal policies that support Freestanding Emergency Centers (FECs).
Throughout the day, members discussed the upcoming reintroduction of the Emergency Care Improvement Act, legislation designed to establish permanent Medicare recognition for FECs. They also raised concerns about ongoing challenges stemming from the flawed implementation of the No Surprises Act—particularly issues within the independent dispute resolution (IDR) process that continue to affect emergency care providers.
The day began with a breakfast meeting with Congressman August Pfluger (R-TX), a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Congressman Pfluger expressed strong interest in the legislation, voiced his support, and requested additional information on how he can help advance the bill.
NAFEC remains committed to advocating for policies that strengthen the long-term stability of FECs and specialty emergency hospitals. These efforts will continue as the Association works to ensure patients have access to high-quality, community-based emergency care.
