Washington DC Fly-In

On March 26th, NAFEC members joined lobbyists from the McManus Group in Washington, D.C. for a fly-in, where they met with 21 Congressional offices from both the House and the Senate to advocate for the Association’s innovative models for emergency care. During these meetings, our members discussed the upcoming reintroduction of the Emergency Care Improvement Act, which aims to secure permanent Medicare recognition for Freestanding Emergency Centers (FECs). They also addressed the issues arising from the improper implementation of the No Surprises Act, particularly concerning the independent dispute resolution (IDR) process.

The day on Capitol Hill began with NAFEC members having breakfast with Representative Arrington (R-TX), the Republican lead on the Emergency Care Improvement Act. He expressed his commitment to getting the bill passed during this Congress and mentioned his plans to draft a Congressional letter to the new Administration, urging them to tackle some key issues within the IDR process.

In addition to their meeting with Rep. Arrington, the group engaged with ten other Texas offices, as well as key members of the Ways & Means and Energy & Commerce Committees and three Senate offices. NAFEC will continue these advocacy efforts to ensure the stability of the FEC and specialty Emergency Room hospital industry.
